# Chapter 10 — Conclusion

---

## 10.1 Research Question

Capability becomes useful through a working relation among the person, the
purpose, the subject and its consequences. Agents extend what can be investigated
and performed. The environment makes context and action accessible. Human
judgment shapes what matters and what the person will stand behind.

Root supports that relation by making the means of work available for use and
revision. Roles preserve responsibility, artifacts sustain shared attention,
methods carry learning, and tools make selected actions repeatable. Their value
lies in these contributions.

## 10.2 Contributions

Current artifacts and derived relationships are intended to reduce the effort of
reconstructing what governs a change. Whether they do so at an acceptable total
cost remains an empirical question. Continuing ownership gives responsibility for
repair and integration a home. Roles make those responsibilities explicit without
requiring a separate agent for each one. Authorization comes from the applicable
assignment and governing commitments. The host supplies capabilities and enforces
permissions on its controlled paths; it does not confer authority merely by
making an operation available. The person retains judgment throughout the
undertaking [CITE:Smith2019].

Examination must reach the actual result. Correct source, valid representation
and successful integration support different claims. A shared correction has to
reach its consumers; announcing it is insufficient. Existing evidence can be
reused where its grounds remain applicable.

The means themselves require examination. Their reliability, usefulness and costs
must be assessed through continued work. The case in Chapter 8 supplies bounded
observations; [Appendix E](appendix_e_development_history.md) preserves the
development history and the limits of the inferences drawn from it.

## 10.3 The Central Insight

The means of work should help participants remain with the work. A representation
that aids attention can also displace it. A role that preserves responsibility
can become a compulsory handoff. A check that exposes error can become a ritual
repeated after its evidence is already sufficient. The same mechanism can serve
or frustrate the undertaking under different conditions.

This makes revisability central to the argument. Root must preserve the purpose
of a distinction while permitting its representation to change. It must keep
responsibility for integration while permitting different staffing. It must
support accountable judgment while granting agents room for substantial
reckoning and action. A fixed orchestration cannot settle those relations once
for all future work.

The four perspectives provide a way to examine the tension. Ontology asks what
the work concerns; epistemology asks what understanding and evidence support it;
praxeology asks how it becomes effective action; axiology asks what warrants that
action and its costs. They remain connected in the particular undertaking.
Their value lies in exposing partial accounts and supporting correction, rather
than proving a universal architecture.

## 10.4 Implications for Practice

Root's form follows a claim about learning: the environment should preserve
what experience has made useful without turning its present arrangement into
a permanent prescription. A role, method or tool carries learning forward only
if later participants can understand its purpose, examine its limits and change
it within authority. An expanding inventory alone does not establish progress.

The person's attention is part of the system's finite capacity. Procedures that
consume that attention have ethical and practical costs, especially when the
person remains responsible for reliance. Removing a redundant control can
therefore support accountability. It does so only where relevant distinctions
and grounds remain available; efficiency cannot convert a missing condition into
an established result.

Application derivation poses the same question at a larger scale. An earlier
implementation contains both valuable learning and contingent design choices.
A PRD can help distinguish current commitments from inherited mechanisms, but it
cannot replace interpretation of use, failure and changing capability. A new
application is a substantive advance when it preserves what matters while
improving its realisation, rather than merely reproducing a familiar structure.

These implications leave empirical questions open. Comparable usable results,
consequential errors, recovery, total effort and another practitioner's use can
qualify the argument. Activity counts and internal consistency alone cannot.

## 10.5 Closing

Root, the App and SWBPIPE express the approach at different scales. Root develops
the means of work. The App makes method authoring and agent participation usable.
SWBPIPE brings them into a practice with physical objects, numerical consequences
and professional commitments. Each must earn its usefulness in that setting.

Re-derivation from a PRD can preserve purpose while changing an implementation.
It succeeds when current requirements, prior experience and evidence inform what
is retained and what is replaced. Generating another codebase quickly is not the
same achievement as carrying learning forward.

The continuing task is to improve the means without allowing them to consume
the undertaking. Their grounds remain open to examination, their costs matter,
and their form must answer to the work. The [shared conclusion](CONCLUSION.md)
returns to this iterative relation after the App and Piping arguments have been
developed in their own settings.
